1. Inquire About Permitting

Contact someone from the training program to find out if you need to obtain your permit before beginning class. Some programs, and states, require attendees to successfully obtain their permit ahead of time. Since there is some level of studying involved in the process and a pre-set test schedule, it is best to plan to ensure you can enroll in the CDL course as soon as possible.

2. Schedule a Physical

When you talk to someone from the program, you should also find out about their physical requirements. Again, whether or not a physical is required will vary between states and programs. However, if this is a requirement, you will need to submit paperwork ahead of time showing that you have successfully passed a physical from a licensed medical professional.
